6 months post transplant
Submitted by Coral on Sun, 02/28/2010 - 1:58pmJust wanted to give an update since I have a moment. Raquel is doing well for the most part. It has been a little more than six months since her transplant. She is still fighting the Epstein Barr virus, but she seems to be feeling fine. We are going down on her anti-rejection meds...again. Hopefully, we can maintain her on low doses for a while and her system will be able to keep the EBV at bay. That is our hope. I guess there are not many treatments for this virus and she is already on them. As long as she is feeling well and staying out of the hospital she is okay. She is slowly growing taller and looking her age.
We recently hired a sitter to watch Raquel a few days a week since she can not go to daycare right now. Raquel is always on her best behavior when the sitter is here and as soon as I get home she becomes the terror that she can be, running around the houuse screaming and getting into everything. I told the sitter enjoy it while she can, because in a few weeks when Raquel is used to her she will see the true Raquel come out. I will try to post some pics later. It is still hard to get pics since she does not sit still for long.
Home Sweet Home
Submitted by Coral on Wed, 01/27/2010 - 7:47pmRaquel was discharged from the hospital on Monday evening. Right now she is laying in her playpen happily screaming to her Elmo video. You can tell she is very happy to be home. When we got home Raquel's Nana had made a few changes to Raquel's room. Raquel will no longer sleep in her crib so she sleeps on the fold out sofa in her room. Nana had bought her a new quilt and new curtains. She also put some great bright apple green sheets on the bed. Raquel lit up when she saw the changes.
We have a follow-up visit tomorrow morning. Her liver numbers had all improved when we left the hospital. It's amazing what massive amounts of steroids can do. She had developed another rash and that was also knocked out with the steroid treatments.
